High on Life

In book, No Law, Personal Development on June 14, 2020 at 9:43 am

When I made my transition from “miserable human” to “almost tolerable to be around again,” my wife asked me if I had gotten back on anti-depressants. I was not on medication. I was not taking anything at all. I was indeed high on life. This is something that is written a sheet of paper that I carry with me always. “Bring the Joy!” I have to remind myself daily to be joyful in all I do. This is part of living a life of intention. I’m not going to lie and tell you it is easy. We create a great deal of perceived misery in our lives. We do this because we fail to show gratitude for the mundane things that we have in life. The mundane really isn’t mundane at all. I think it just comes down to what we believe we are entitled to or what is routine. We should be grateful for those things.

If you want to develop joy, learn to be grateful.

What Are You On?

My wife thought that I had gotten on medication to alter my mood. That is what a transformative affect “bringing the joy” had on my life. This is understandable when you have spent the previous two years going through life like a robot and the eighteen years prior to that as a staunch realist. The glass wasn’t just half full for me, it was overflowing and people were starting to notice. My salt had regained its saltiness. I was the candle on the mantle to light the entire room. I had prayed to God for this. I prayed to be a light in the dark lives of others in hopes of leading others to a fulfilling life.

If you want to develop joy, be a ray of sunshine in someone’s cloudy day.

Bring the Joy

Brendon Burchard the author of The Motivation Manifesto, a book that was pivotal in my transformation, writes about bringing the Joy in all we do. When you want to be in a joyful situation, we should be the ones to bring the joy. This is very much what the Apostle Paul has asked us to do: Rejoice! When we bring joy into our everyday life, not much can alter our mood. That is, as long as we choose joy. And we must sustain that joy.

If you want to develop joy, then you have to bring the joy to others.
